If you don't mind my asking, what kind of paper do you use?
Hannemuhle copperplate usually, thanks!
@@artwerger What kind of Paper? 200gsm,300 gsm?
@@penmuni3833 200 gsm for smaller works like this one. 300 for larger
Beautifully done. Really appreciate your videos.
Thank you!
beautiful
Yea Paul!!!
I bought a lot of mezzotint rockers second hand Lyons and Serak). Most of them in very good / perfect condition. One rocker however is missing some teeth on both sides of the row. Can I do something about this myself? BTW, I bought a mezzotint you made in 2020 "Anima-Animus" in the Epreuve d'Artiste gallery in Antwerp.
I am fortunate to own and treasure a large mezzotint by Mr. Werger. Watching the process unfold it's easy to see and understand why Art Werger is a true master of this centuries old printing technique. Thanks for sharing the "magic"...
Never been amazed by a print like this before! Such an amazing piece 👏👏👏
Thanks so much Your comment made my day!
Wow! Beautiful, and the synthesizer with the flutists……sensational experience. Thanks!
Thanks, I was having a drink with the composer when I got your comment!
@@artwerger Well, then cheers to you wonderful gents
Thanks a lot for explanations, helpfull and very good video :)
Really cool, Thanks :)
Wow so many useful tips! Thanks so much for sharing your technique in such a clear manner
That's interesting.
Nice videos, well presented and informative. What is your opinion on mechanically roughening the plate; or an aquatint ground?
Thank you! I do work on pre-rocked plates made in London. They are very good and my elbows can no longer take all the abuse of rocking large plates. I also do a lot of aquatint. When making aquatints, I try to achieve all of my values through the stage biting process. I prefer not to rework (scrape and burnish) the aquatint at all. Check out my video artwergeraquatint to see the stage biting process
That is beautiful
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
Loved the series. You explained so clearly, one of the best printing demo I've watched 😭. Waiting for another method's videos❤❤.
OK, my dummy brain is missing something. The paint pen colors have nothing to do with anything? But the substance of the paint pens or crayons do? There are different substances interact with the acid at different levels. More interaction means darker? Less lighter? The first bit went by too fast for me.
The paint pens just act as an acid resist. I use different colors at each level of the stage biting to keep track of the different values that will result from each bite in the acid.
Excellent - a really interesting process and a great picture. Danke!
Really interesting to see this process. At 4.14, you say that you will lose your line during proofing; what do you mean? Why is the line lost?
Art, I appreciate the clear, concise way you present the whole Mezzotint process. Informative and accessible. Me and my students have benefitted from your work and presentation. Thank you very much.
Thank you Stephen. That is very nice to hear!
Stunning Print 🙌🏻👍🏻
Wonderful video series
Thanks!
Thank you for this video ! Great work
Thanks so much for this video! I am taking a class in mezzotint at pyramid Atlantic right now
Amazing processes! Love the way you showed the steps understand in detail
Thank you for your job
I just wanted to say I’m in awe here. I started watching the video just for curiosity, as I have never heard of mezzotint and wanted to understand what it is and how it is done, and was amazed by the whole process. I wonder how long it takes you do complete a piece like this one? It is so detailed and intricate. Beautiful work! 🫶
This one took about 6 months and I have spent as much as a year one one 24” x 36” mezzotint. But I also have done many small ones on a one-a-day schedule. Over 500 total…so far.
@@artwerger thank you for your reply! And for taking time to make these videos ❤
amazing work. thx for showing!👍
Ameging I can understand easy tqs
The problem with most etchings is that no one would want to own or display them.
Absolutely fantastic videos. Very enjoyable and very useful. Much appreciated!
I am going to attempt to do this. your work is really inspiring.
Thanks for the information. I recently bought a mezzotint and read that the artist generally worked about 500 hours on a piece of art. Now I understand how and why!
I never keep track !!
Fascinating
That is reaslly amazing. Please keep the great videos coming!
So is that one print per inking? Or can you do multiples of each pass?
What a great tutorial! And what an amazing print, I'm speechless!!!! Extremely well done! I'm a relief printmaker but just recently bought an old copper printing press and want to get into etching and mezzotinto (if I could get the tools...) and feel so motivated now seeing your amazing work! Best regards from Germany :)
Brilliant! Can’t wait for this book release later this year!
Mezzotint and noir are a good combination!
Mezzotint beginner here. This series concise, educational and beautiful 🙏🐈⬛
Great series on mezzotint. Will explore your videos further, sir! Thanks so much and that's an exquisite print you made there🙏🥂
Thank You!
Maravilloso!! Lo sigo desde Chile
Harika...
Perfect teacher
We don't need no stinkin' motorized presses!
I was thinking of getting a press, do you think a 5inch drum will create enough pressure for a mezzotint?
Great video. Very instructive and your print is exquisite. Thanks 🐈⬛
Hi Art! You were my professor at Wesleyan college! You told me I was suffering from “ masterpiece syndrome “, lol! You were absolutely the best teacher and I enjoyed learning from you!!! I’m a plein air painter now…..I had a terrible injury and I’m still trying to cope with that. Love what you are doing…amazing! I live in Taos , New Mexico…..
Lorraine; Thank you so much for your kind comments. It sounds like I was pretty rude to say you were suffering from “masterpiece syndrome” but I guess I should know, because I suffer from the same aspirations and sense of grandeur. I am so sorry to hear of your injury but inspired by your plain air painting. I would love to see some of them. I also find inspiration in working from the landscape, plain air drawing. All my best wishes to you and yours. New Mexico is wonderful!
Such a great series. Thank you. Your print is stunning.
Thanks!
Amazing work!
